Born an only child she grew up runnin wild
with the howlin wind on the Texas panhandle plain
she married young like her mama done
and when her man pulled out he left her nothin but the bills and pain
And then she gave her soul to the wild oat seed
to the open road like a tumble weed
she loves to roam my Rose of Jericho
She never talks too much about her life and such
or what she has to do to get her groceries and her rent
she's still a girl and it's a cold hard world
and a broken dream is all her hometown ever meant
And so she gave her soul to the wild oat seed
to the open road like a tumble weed
she loves to roam my Rose of Jericho
I did the best I could I tried to raise her good
it's hard to put down roots in a two-bit town like this
each night I pray I hope that she's okay
and where the devil she is I can only guess
And the Lord only knows if she'll settle down
find an honest man or come back around
I miss my Rose my Rose of Jericho
She gave her soul to the wild oat seed
to the open road like a tumble weed
she loves to roam my rose of Jericho
