Sunday folk series to support the Two Way Street Coffee House debuts April 6

DOWERS GROVE IL - The Two Way Street Coffee House, 1047 Curtiss Street will present three special matinee concerts to support the Coffee House operating fund. “The Two Way Street Heritage Series” wcill feature acoustic performances by local and emerging artists as well as favorites from the Coffee House Friday schedule.

The Heritage series debuts on Sunday, April 6 at 3:00 pm. Featured performers are The Sons of the Prairie, an ensemble that performs mostly classic country and western songs and Wattle & Daub a husband and wife duo of singer songwriters.

Midwest troubadour and song writer Mark Dvorak will close the program and hosts Ashley & Simpson will also perform.

Since 2019 Jennifer Ashely and Joel Simpson have served as co-directors of the Two Way Street Coffee House. 

Now in its 55th season, the Two Way Street has presented acoustic music in the intimate basement space at the First Congregational United Church of Christ and been host to weekly jam sessions, sing alongs and barn dances.

“We’re really excited to launch the Heritage Series,” said Simpson. “Our goal is to help grow our community and create more opportunities for local performers.”

 “Last July, Joel and I begain working with Mark Dvorak on developing the concept,” said Ashley. “The response from performers willing to donate their time has been overwhelming. Over the years, the Two Way Street has touched a lot of lives. We’re thrilled to have the chance to give something back.” 

The Sunday, June 29 Heritage Concert features folk and old-time music with The Wood Shop Boys and singer songwriter Jack Kenney from Grayslake.

The final Heritage concert takes place on Sunday, October 5 and features singer songwriter Lisa P. Medina and Two Way Street mainstay George Mattson.

There is no admission charge for the concerts, but free will donations will be accepted. All proceeds go directly to support the Two Way Street Coffee House.
