Mark Dvorak continues to be an integral member of the folk music community. When he's not on the road, you can find him here and there teaching, jamming with students and passers by, or just hanging out at different venues soaking in the vibe.
He began teaching as an avocation, but his interest in working with students deepened and evolved into a way of life and a livelihood of "helping people teach themselves."
Since 1986, thousands of music students have passed through his classes. He has helped many a beginner get through their first chords and strums, and has hosted a catalogue of master classes and workshops on a range of subjects from old time banjo picking to the legacy of the great Lead Belly, to just about every other topic related to the study of the American folk song.
Upcoming classes & workshops:
The Troubadour Experience

The Troubadour is an essential figure in Western music. In the Middle Ages, amour - a Fren ch word for love - was celebrated by wandering poets and minstrels who sang of “what the eyes have made welcome to the heart.”
There is no right or wrong way to approach the craft of performing your own music. No single set of instructions could ever prepare one for the many circumstances a performer will encounter.
Since 1981, folk singer, songwriter Mark Dvorak has given around ten-thousand performances. Join him for an illuminating discussion and workshop aimed at helping you to sharpen up your acoustic performance.
Topics include: Responsibility of the performer, Choosing material, Preparedeness, Engagement.
For thirty-one years Dvorak was an integral member of the Old Town School of Folk Music faculty, Chicago, Illinois. He began teaching as an avocation but his interest in working with students deepened and evolved into a way of life and a livelihood of “helping people learn how to teach themselves.”
