Music and Bites event supports the Hyde Park Refugee Project May 17
CHICAGO IL - The Hyde Park Refugee Project and Music & Potlucks, will present “Music and Bites” on Sunday, May 17 at Augustana Lutheran Church, 5500 S. Woodlawn Avenue. The event takes place from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm and features the music of master musician, storyteller and songwriter Mark Dvorak.
Dvorak, who spent thirty-one years on the faculty of Chicago’s venerable Old Town School of Folk Music has carried forward the songs and spirit of the folk revival of the 1950s and 1960s into the present day.
“The more things change, the more they seem to stay the same,” said the singer from his home in Brookfield, Illinois. “These songs were born out of struggle and adapted to new circumstances again and again. And here we are again, hearing the rumblings of another war, while the wealth gap grows and disenfranchised people from all over the country and around the world, are experiencing food and shelter insecurity.”

“I’m really proud to have been invited to participate in the Music and Bites event,” he said. “We’re pulling together as best we can to help make a difference.”
"The mission is to create and foster a welcoming community for our refugee and immigrant neighbors,” said Sandy Wilson, a supporter of the Hyde Park Refugee Project and cosponsor of the event. “We’re working to provide support for individuals and families of all immigrant backgrounds so they may move towards leading lives of dignity and self-determination."
General admission to the event is $20, $10 for students and $50 for star supporters. Sponsorships are also available starting at $250.
