Concerts On the Creek to present folk singer songwriter Mark Dvorak and Ashley & Simpson in concert March 2
ROCKFORD IL - Spring Creek UCC, 4500 Spring Creek Road will present “Concerts On the Creek” featuring Midwest troubadour Mark Dvorak on Saturday, March 2 at 3:00 pm. Dvorak will be joined by special guests Ashley & Simpson.
Earlier in the year Dvorak released his twentieth album, Live & Alone, which was recorded in an empty concert hall during the height of the pandemic. He also published his fourth book of essays, 31 Winters: Finding the Folk Way which reflects on his long journey through music and teaching.
“Mark has long been a Rockford favorite,” said Ron Holm, music director for Concerts On the Creek. “It should be a pretty special matinee concert.”
The acoustic duo Ashley & Simpson are singers, songwriters, educators and multi-instrumentalists with a special interest in traditional songs. They are busy at work on their third CD, Hello Mr. Sun, due out later this year. Ashley & Simpson will join Dvorak on stage to close the show.
The Chicago Tribune has called Dvorak “masterful,” and the Fox Valley Folk Festival describes him as “a living archive of song and style. Dvorak has won awards for journalism and children’s music and was honored in 2013 with the FARM Lantern Bearer Award from Folk Alliance International. In 2012 Rich Warren, long time host of The Midnight Special radio program named Dvorak “Chicago’s official troubadour.”
