Folk guitarist and singer songwriter Mark Dvorak set for concerts and workshops in northern Wisconsin May 24, 25 & 26
MINOCQUA WI - When singer, songwriter and author Mark Dvorak began his career in music he knew right away he’d be in it for the long haul. Thirty years later he is still writing, recording and on the road performing.
“At this stage of the game,” said the singer from his home outside Chicago, Illinois, “I feel like I’m doing my best work.”
Dvorak is celebrating Dvorak is celebrating his 21st recorded release, Live & Alone, and his 4th collection of essays, 31 Winters: Finding the Folk Way. He has won awards for journalism, and was honored with the 2013 FARM Lantern Bearer Award from Folk Alliance International. In 2008 he received the Woodstock Folk Festival Lifetime Achievement Award.
“Mark is a treasure,” said Jerry Woolpy of Minocqua. He’s been on the road for a lot of years it seems and like fine wine, he just get’s better with age. We’re thrilled to have him back in Minocqua.”
On Friday, May 24 at 7:00 pm Dvorak will give an all ages show at the Inspiration Bar located in the Warehouse Arts Center, 107 S. Railroad Street, Eagle River. On Saturday, May 25 at 1:00 pm Dvorak will present a hands-on workshop, “Folk Guitar Basics.” The session will include discussion, demonstrations and an acoustic jam session. The workshop is open to all but aimed toward players who have the ability to change basic chords. The workshop takes place at the Scott Reed Theatre, 8395 Woolpy Drive, Minocqua.
Also on Saturday, May 25, Dvorak will perform an evening sing-along concert at the Scott Reed Theatre, 8395 Woolpy Drive, Minocqua. The concert begins at 6:00 pm. There is no admission charge, but a free will donation of $10-20 is suggested.
On Sunday, May 26 Dvorak will read from 31 Winters answer questions and perform a few songs. There is no admission charge and copies of 31 Winters will be available for purchase.
