When the singer-songwriter began his career in music, he knew right away he was in it for the long haul. More than thirty years later, he is still traveling, performing, teaching at the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago, and recording. Dvorak is currently at work on his eighteenth project due out by the end of the year.

“At this stage of the game I feel like I am doing my best work,” said Dvorak who records in his home studio. I’m calling this new one, 'I Call Them All Love Songs,' which is based on a quote from Pete Seeger. It’ll be a mix of some new originals I’ve been putting together, some blues, a couple of standards and a few traditional songs too. I just love the variety.”

In 2012, WFMT 98.7 fm Fine Arts Radio named Dvorak Chicago’s “official troubadour,” a designation he doesn’t take lightly.

“Win Stracke was Chicago’s first official troubadour,” said Dvorak. “I think Studs Terkel called him that and it stuck.” Stracke, who passed away in 1992 was the founder of Old Town School of Folk Music. Dvorak became friends with Stracke after meeting back stage at fundraising event held in Chicago’s Orchestra Hall.

Later the title was passed on to Chicago singer Fred Holstein. “i loved listening to Fred,” said Dvorak, “and I spent a lot of time listening to him and watching him perform. We were never close, but Fred always treated me with kindness and respect. You don’t forget that sort of thing. Fred was a great influence."

“Mark has been on the road for a lot years it seems,” said musician Ron Holm, who is also the music director at Just Goods Listening Room. “He is an absolute favorite here in Rockford and is gaining attention across the country. His songwriting is incredible. And I just love the way he can involve an audience. He’s a real one-of-a-kind."

Opening the evening will be local singer and Rockford native Dawn M. DiVenti. DiVenti presents programs on the history of the American hobo and was recently named to her second term as National Queen of the Hobos. and in 2012.

“I’ve known Mark for a while now,” said DiVenti. “When he reached out and invited me to join him for the Just Goods show I was thrilled. I’m really looking forward to the evening.”
