Elevated Songwriter Series features Chicago’s “official troubadour” November 5
CHICAGO IL - The Elevated Songwriter Series will present Chicago’s “official troubadour” Mark Dvorak in an acoustic evening of original song on Saturday, November 5 at 8:00 pm. The concert will take place at Holy Covenant United Methodist Church, 925 Diversey Parkway. Singer-songwriter James Abud will open the show.

“Mark Dvorak is a Chicago treasure,” said Sue Fink, codirector of the series.
Fink who along with Emily White founded the series in last spring with a string of shows spotlighting artists on Chicago's songwriting scene. They are both active performers, songwriters and recording artists.
“Chicago has needed a space like Elevated for a long time,” she said. There just aren’t enough listening spaces in town that support our local artists. Emily and I got together last year and unhatched our plan. So far we’re very pleased with our fast start. “Mark's concert will certainly be a highlight. His repertoire is vast, and his original songs ring like classics that have been around for generations. We’re so excited.”
Dvorak has performed in thirty-eight states and in parts of Europe and Canada and has won awards for journalism and children’s music. In 2008 he received the Woodstock Folk Festival Lifetime Achievement Award and the Lantern Bearer Award from Folk Alliance International in 2013. This autumn he is busy at work on his eighteenth recording project.
“At this stage of the game I feel like I am doing my best work,” said Dvorak who records in his own Groveland Home Studio. This new one will be called “Let Love Go On” and was inspired by a quote from the late Pete Seeger. It’ll be a mix of some new songs I’ve been putting together, a couple of blues and some of my all-time favorite songs to perform in concert. I just love the variety and am excited to try some of the new stuff out at the Elevated show in November."
“He’s the real deal,” said Bau Graves, Executive Director of Chicago’s Old Town School of Folk Music. ”Mark has made music his life and livelihood. He’s been a top faculty member at the school for more than twenty-five years. His performances are elegant, rich and powerful.”
