Blues and folk in Highwood July 28
HIGHWOOD IL - When Chicago Blues Hall of Famer Donna Herula returns to the Cellar Gate Wine Market Bistro on July 28, she will share the stage with singer songwriter and folk artist Mark Dvorak.
Herula, a Lake Forest native performs regularly at the Cellar Gate and at blues clubs such as Buddy Guy’s Legends in Chicago. She met Dvorak at the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago where they are both on faculty.
Herula is an accomplished guitarist and her bottle-neck slide player. In 2016 she was named one of the top ten up and coming resonator guitar players by Acoustic Guitar Magazine.
“Donna’s an inspiration,” said Dvorak. “I’ve admired her playing for years and she brings a great knowledge of American roots music to the stage. I’m excited for the chance to share the evening with her.”
Dvorak has performed in thirty-eight states and in parts of Europe and Canada. He has released seventeen albums and has won awards for journalism and children’s music. In 2008 he received the Woodstock Folk Festival Lifetime Achievement Award and the Lantern Bearer Award from Folk Alliance International in 2013.
“He’s the real deal,” said Bau Graves, Executive Director of the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago, where Dvorak has been on faculty for more than twenty-five years. ”Mark has made music his life and livelihood. His performances are elegant, rich and powerful. He is one of the Old Town School’s Distinguished Teaching Artists.”
“Mark has been on the road for a lot of years it seems,” said Herula. "He’s a favorite in the Midwest and has gained attention across the country. I’m looking forward to the collaboration.”
