WeaverMania! back on the road

Michael Smith, Barbara Barrow, Christopher Walz and MD are reuniting to present WeaverMania! LIVE at the 2013 Big Muddy Folk Festival in Boonville, MO April 5 and 6.

"We took a chance, and are ecstatic that WeaverMania! will be with us this year at Big Muddy," said festival director Dave Para. "Two years ago Mark, Chris and Ellen Shepard headlined and knocked everyone out. We're really looking forward to this one."

WeaverMania! first became active in 1999. "It was actually the autumn of 1998," recalls Dvorak. "I remember rehearsing two and three times a week for months, getting the material ready."

The group toured the Midwest and the East Coast for seven years, performing up to thirty concerts per season. Since 2008, Weavermania! has reunited several times for short runs and special events. "We're glad to be getting back together," said Dvorak. "I'm looking forward to singing with Michael, Barbara and Chris again."

The concept for the show grew out of Michael Smith's love of The Weavers, the 1950s folk group which brought songs like "Irene Goodnight" and "So Long It's Been Good to Know Yuh" to the top of the charts. Their powerful performances and social awareness influenced generations of folk musicians and listeners.

The Big Muddy Folk Festival has come together in Boonville every spring since 1999. Stay tuned to this space for updates on the 2013 festival. Visit the archives of past festivals at www.bigmuddy.org.
