One of the most celebrated poets of all time, Illinois' own Carl Sandburg wrote an epic poem in the 1930s titled, "The People, Yes," which turned the everyday language of Americans into everlasting images on the page.

This presentation mixes some of the traditional folk songs preserved by Sandburg - who was also a folk song collector - and combines them with read selections from the Pulitzer Prize winning author and poet.

“I’ve been reading Sanburg since junior high school,” said Dvorak. “His writing is both sweeping and humorous - and touching. He captures something of the American essence and of the Midwestern heartland.”

Dvorak has performed in thirty-eight states, and in Canada, Ireland and Finland and is busy working on his eighteenth album release, “Let Love Go On.”

Dvorak has won awards for journalism and children’s music. In 2008 he received the Woodstock Folk Festival Lifetime Achievement Award and the Lantern Bearer Award from Folk Alliance International in 2013. Since 1986 he has been a faculty member at Chicago’s venerable Old Town School of Folk Music, where he is artist-in-residence.

“He’s the real deal,” said Bau Graves, Executive Director of Chicago’s Old Town School of Folk Music. ”Mark has made music his life and livelihood. He’s been a top faculty member at the school for almost thirty years. His performances are elegant, rich and powerful.”
